Ian 'SAX' Saxby - Artist in Residence Exhibition @ Derivan

Saturday 11th September, 2010 - 2pm

Derivan's First Artist in Residence

On September 11th Derivan will present a show featuring the work of its first Artist-in-Residence, Ian Saxby, also known as "SAX".

The show will display paintings and sculptures covering a range of genres including Gothic, Vorticist and Comic Art. Sax's obsession with fine detail, expressed in vivid colours, explores the cultural conflicts hidden beneath the surface of a quiet suburban lifestyle. His recent work blends paint with many types of medium: sand, mica chips, wax, impasto and gel. The theme of "Hidden Things", challenges viewers to look under the deceptive surfaces of earth, skin and mechanichal objects, to discover layers of intricacies hidden beneath.

Sax is a Sydney artist whose work reflects a lifelong fascination with Earth, Science and Biology. He begun painting as a teenager but his art became a serious vocation after a back injury in 2007. His paintings have begun to find an audience locally as well as internationally.
This will be the artist first solo show. He is proud to partner with Derivan, where he worked for two years as a paintmaker. Many of the artworks are created utilising many of Derivan's range of products, reflecting the artist's love of vibrant colours and extreme contrast.

On offer will be several sizes and grades of prints and original art. The show commences at 2pm on Saturday at the Derivan Studios on the first floor - Rhodes.
