MESH SIZE:

Mesh size is important for silkscreen printing purposes. The most common mesh size for fabric printing is a 120 MESH/43T, and the best one to use when you're screenprinting on paper is 200MESH/70T. Different mesh sizes are used in various applications within the screen-printing process, with different meshes being appropriate for specific textiles or papers depending on their absorbency levels. Typically, coarser meshes can be used more effectively for fabric than finer mesh that is used for paper as the cloth tends to be more absorbent.

FABRIC CHOICES

For the best results, it is recommended to use absorbent materials such as 100% cotton; avoid waterproof fabrics as they tend to inhibit penetration of the paints, thus affecting washability. Wool, in general, should be avoided unless thoroughly cleaned because wool grease can repel water-based colours. Fabrics containing starch or other fillers may not take paint properly and result in mottling or poor colour adhesion. Waterproofing treatments in these fabrics may prevent proper paint absorption and cause patchy printing that won't remain washable for long periods.
