CLEAR SEALER | HOW TO PAINT ON TERRACOTTA POTS‚
Use Clear Sealer to prepare leather, glass, concrete, candles, metal and terracotta pots. This derivan acrylic medium primarily provides a transparent sealant layer to substrates. Applied to raw wood, it forms a transparent seal. Without a sealer, raw wood will absorb the paint resulting in a patchy, uneven surface. Sealing also prevents the natural wood tannins from seeping into the paint and causing discolouration.
What Paint To Use On Terracotta Pots?
Porous terracotta pots can be painted with any Derivan Acrylic Paints, as long as the surface is first sealed with Derivan Clear Sealer.
How To Paint Your Terracotta Pot With Derivan Acrylics
Prepare your terracotta pot by cleaning it and dusting it down before applying Clear Sealer. As the terracotta or unfired ceramic is porous, you will need to paint the pot with a clear sealer. We recommend diluting the Clear Sealer with up to 1 part water to 2 parts Clear Sealer and letting it dry for 24 hours. The pot is now ready for your painted design. Finish with a coat of Derivan Polymer Varnish to protect the surface. If the painted pot is left out in the elements, two coats of MM14 Final Varnish Gloss Finish, MM15 Final Varnish Matt Finish or MM29 Final Varnish Satin Finish are recommended.
